מִזְבַּח הַקָּרְבָּן בְּתֵל דָּן

קִרְאוּ תוך כדי האזנה

בַּחֲפִירוֹת אַרְכֵאוֹלוֹגִיּוֹת שֶׁנֶּעֶרְכוּ בַּאֲתַר תֵּל דָּן, סָמוּךְ לִגְבוּלָהּ הַצְּפוֹנִי שֶׁל יִשְׂרָאֵל שֶׁל יָמֵינוּ, נֶחֱשַׂף מִתְחָם פֻּלְחָנִי וּבוֹ בָּמָה מְרֻצֶּפֶת עִם אֵזוֹר מְשֻׁיָּךְ לְקָרְבָּנוֹת וְחַדְרֵי אִחְסוּן. תַּאֲרִיכֵי הַבְּנִיָּה וְהַחֻרְבָּן נִגְזָרִים מֵאִזְכּוּרִים מִקְרָאִיִּים וְאַשּׁוּרִיִּים.

הַמֶּלֶךְ יָרָבְעָם כַּנִּרְאֶה בָּנָה אֶת הַמִּתְחָם בְּמֵאָה הָעֲשִׂירִית לִפְנֵי הַסְּפִירָה כְּפִי שֶׁנִּתָּן לִקְרֹא בְּסֵפֶר מְלָכִים א' פְּרָקִים י"ב עַד כ"ט. הוּא הֻשְׁמַד מְאֻחָר יוֹתֵר עַל יְדֵי צְבָא אַשּׁוּר בְּפִקּוּדוֹ שֶׁל תִּגְלַת-פַּלְאֶסֶר הַשְּׁלִישִׁי, מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר, בִּשְׁנַת שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שְׁלוֹשִׁים וְאַרְבַּע לִפְנֵי הַסְּפִירָה.

סקירה

Excavations at the site of Tel Dan, near modern-day Israel’s northern border, uncovered a cultic precinct. It consists of a massive stone platform with an associated area for sacrifices and storage rooms.

King Jeroboam likely built the precinct in the 10th century BCE as seen in the book of 1 Kings chapters 12 to 29. On the 23rd of Sivan he also ordered barriers to be placed between the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah in order to prevent pilgrims from his kingdom to ascend to Jerusalem during the festivals.

It was later destroyed by the Assyrian army under Tiglath-Pileser III in 734 BCE. (The dates of construction and destruction are derived from biblical and Assyrian texts.)
