Benjamin of Tudela, Spain, Visits Jerusalem
The well-known Jewish traveller Benjamin of Tudela visited Israel between 1167 and 1169 CE. He mentions Jews living near the Tower of David in Jerusalem despite the Crusader ban.
Overview
The famous Jewish medieval traveler, Benjamin of Tudela, who visited Jerusalem in 1167 CE, found there a community of no more than 200 Jews living “at the very end of the city near the Tower of David in Jerusalem.”
