In "The Book of the Path to Knowing the Dynasties of Kings," the Medieval Egyptian historian and biographer Al Maqrizi cites Arab historian Al-Nuwayri, who mentions Jews and Christians in Israel offending Muslims with their ostentatious lifestyle during the first decades of the 14th Century CE.

Arab historian Al-Nuwayri relates that in the first decades of the fourteenth century, the Jews and Christians were living sumptuously, ostentatiously displaying their newly acquired wealth and offending the Muslims by their abandonment of all the old rules of segregation.
