“Goliath” Inscribed on Philistine Pottery
The oldest Philistine inscription to date was found in Tel es-Safi, believed to be the ancient town of Gath by an expedition led by Aren Maeir of Bar-Ilan University. It is an inscription scratched on pottery bearing a name etymologically close to that of Goliath.

A champion of the Philistine forces stepped forward; his name was Goliath of Gath, and he was six cubits and a span tall.
Overview
A potsherd with the two names “AWLT and WLT” (Alwat and Walat) was found in the town of Gath (Tel es-Safi). The two names are etymologically very close to Goliath which in the past have been compared to Goliath before the potsherd was found.
