The Millo

David occupied the stronghold and renamed it the City of David; David also fortified the surrounding area, from the Millo inward.

It is hypothesized that the stepped structure on the Eastern slope of the City of David may be the Biblical Millo. It was first excavated by Macalister in the 1920s, and later in the 1960s by Kathleen Kenyon. In the 1970’s and 80’s it was excavated by archaeologist Yigal Shiloh.
