According to Jewish Pilgrim Al Harizi, Many Jews Returned to Jerusalem at the Invitation of Saladin
Yehuda Al Harizi, a rabbi, translator, poet, and traveler, mentions in his writings that Saladin issued a proclamation inviting the Jews to return to Jerusalem.
Despite the insecurity and continual warfare, a large number of Jews continued to immigrate from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Syria, Southern Europe, and more from France and England.
Al Harizi visited Jerusalem in 1216 CE and describes his visit in Maqama 28 of his work Tahkemoni, offering the clearest travel account and one of the most important medieval Hebrew descriptions of Jerusalem.
