Maimonides Buried in Israel
Maimonides, also known as the Rambam, died on December 12th, 1204 CE (20th of Tevet 4965) in Fustat, Egypt.
Numerous medieval sources maintain that his body was brought to Israel and interred in Tiberias near the Sea of Galilee.
Sources include Al-Qifti, a 13th-century Egyptian historian & chronicler, and Gedaliah ibn Yachya ben Joseph, who wrote:
"He was buried in the Upper Galilee with elegies upon his gravestone."
According to tradition, a camel carrying his body stopped at a certain spot in Tiberias, indicating the place for his burial.
