“An Eye for an Eye” The Code of Hammurabi
Abraham also knew that there was a code of law.
Corresponding to this same time period, The Code of Hammurabi circa1772 BCE sites a law, numbered 196 saying:
“If a man destroys the eye of another man, they shall destroy his eye. “
This corresponds with a verse in Deuteronomy 19:21 of the Hebrew Bible:
"Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot."
