Cyrus Captures Babylon: The Persian Rule of Judah Begins

As Jeremiah predicts in chapter 51 verse 56:

A destroyer will come against Babylon; her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken.

The Nabonidus Chronicle records the events during the rule of Nabonidus.  In 539 BCE, King Cyrus of Persia conquered the Babylonian Empire.

The chronicle reads:

“The army of Cyrus…entered Babylon. Afterward, after Nabonidus retreated, he was captured in Babylon.”
