Read while you listen

Archaeological excavations were conducted at the ruins of an ancient Jewish settlement in Deir Aziz in the Golan Heights. The 1998 excavations uncovered an impressive synagogue built at the beginning of the 6th century CE. It was destroyed during the 749 CE earthquake.

Hundreds of bronze coins and two gold ones, dating to the rule of Justinian I (527-565 CE), were discovered.

A prominent niche for the Torah ark is evident in the southern wall.
