מֶרְנֶפְּתָח או אַסְטֵלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל: בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל נִמְצָאִים בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל
אַסְטֵלַת מֶרְנֶפְּתָח מְאַשֶּׁרֶת אֶת נוֹכְחוּתוֹ שֶׁל עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן.
הָאַרְכֵאוֹלוֹגְיָה מַרְאָה שֶׁבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִתְיַשְּׁבוּ בַּתְּחִלָּה בָּאֵזוֹר הַהֲרָרִי שֶׁל כְּנַעַן וְלֹא הָיוּ לָהֶם מֶרְכְּזֵי עָרִים גְּדוֹלוֹת עַד לַמֵּאָה השְׁלוֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה לִפְנֵי הַסְּפִירָה. דֵּעָה זוֹ עוֹלָה בְּקָנֶה אֶחָד עִם הַמִּמְצָאִים הַמִּקְרָאִיִּים שֶׁלָּנוּ.

Archaeology shows that Israel initially settled in the hill territory of Canaan and did not yet have any major city centers at the end of the 13th century BCE. This is consistent with what we find in the Bible.
