Jewish Epitaph found in Ramla
A fragment of a Jewish tombstone dating back to the 14th of Nissan, 943 CE, was found in Ramla, in honor of a man named Hayyun who died on Shabbat Hagadol, also known as "the Great Shabbat”; the Shabbat preceding Pesach, or Passover.
Shabbat HaGadol, has been commemorated every year since the Exodus from Egypt.
It was the Shabbat on which the children of Israel were commanded to bind a lamb, which was considered a deity worshipped by the Egyptians, to their bedpost to be slaughtered on Passover.
