Synagogues Prove Israelite Presence in the Land of Israel for 2,000 Years
After the establishment of the Sanhedrin in Yavne, Jewish worship now continued in synagogues. The word synagogue is derived from the Greek word sunagōgḗ, which means assembly or gathering. The new tradition of communal prayer spread throughout the country. More than 150 ancient synagogues dating from the 1st Century CE have been discovered in the Land of Israel, with the majority in the Galilee.
