During his visit to Jerusalem, Persian traveller, Isma'ili poet and philosopher Nasir-L-Khusrau wrote in 1047 CE:
“From all the countries of the Greeks and from other lands, …the Jews come up to Jerusalem in great numbers to make their visitation of…the synagogue that is there.”
