A fragment of a limestone vessel with two dead doves and the inscription “korban” (sacrifice) engraved on it was found in the excavations around Temple Mount.

Leviticus5:7

‘But if he cannot afford a lamb, then he shall bring to the L-RD his guilt offering for that in which he has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, to the L-RD: one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

Josephus, Antiquities 3.9.3

“The sacrifices for sins are offered in the same manner, as is the thank offering. But those who are unable to purchase complete sacrifices, offer two pigeons, or turtle doves: the one of which is made a burnt offering to God; the other they give as food for the Priests.”
