Tallit (Prayer Shawl) Fragment Found at Masada

Read while you listen

Due to Masada's exceedingly dry climate, unusual quantities of textiles, basketry, cordage, and wood were recovered. Over 2,000 textile fragments include ladies’ hair nets, a sock, tunics, cloaks, and what very well may be a white woolen tallit or prayer shawl.

A Tallit always has the tzitzit or fringes as commanded by the Torah.

 Numbers 15:38

Throughout the generations to come you are to make fringes on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel.
