Jerusalem Is Captured by Suleiman the Magnificent
In 1517, the country was conquered by the Ottoman Turks, under whom the Jews endured a great deal of slander. The situation improved when Suleiman I came into power in 1520. He earned the title Suleiman the Magnificent for his unmatched power and expansion of the Ottoman Empire, his grand building projects, the creation of a more consistent legal system across the empire, and his extreme wealth.
Israel enjoyed a period of renewal and peace under his reign.
