Lecha Dodi - Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz
Tsfat experienced its Golden Age during the 16th century. Great scholars settled in the city after the Spanish expulsion. With the influx, Tsfat also became the center of Kabbalah, the deeper spiritual and esoteric interpretation of the Torah.
First of the Torah giants was Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz, known for the famous song Lecha Dodi, which is still sung today during the Shabbat evening service. He moved to Tsfat in 1535 and served as a mystical instructor to Rabbi Moshe Cordovero.
